Website Submission

Website Submission is the process that a webmaster uses to submit a web site directly to a search engine for inclusion. Many times website submission is not necessary inorder to show up in the search engines. Many engines, such as Google and Bing use programs called spider and bots that crawl through all the websites, searching and recording the various pages they hit.

With that being said, some webmasters will still manually submit or use a website submission service for inclusion. Webmasters may feel that they either do not want to wait for the search engine spiders to find their website, or they have recently updated a page and want that change to be realized faster by the search engines. This is completely dependent on the webmaster - considering the results and timeframe they are working with.

There are a couple different ways for a merchant to submit a website for inclusion. One way is to submit each page individually to the search engines. This can prove to be a tedious and time consuming method of submission. Another way is to submit a sitemap that would include each all of the pages of the website properly condensed onto 1 page. This will allow for the search engine spiders to index each page of site during their next crawl.

Sitemaps are fast and easy way to display all of the web pages of a site, visible to both the search engines and the users. A sitemap is basically a list of all the different pages of the site, placed onto 1 page. XML sitemaps have become a popular way for webmasters to submit sitemaps directly to the search engines. By using the robots.txt file and listing it in the appropriate webmaster center, search engines such as Google, Yahoo and Bing will find it easier to index the webpages faster.
